Counseling + Connie’s Story
Counseling at Eastside Academy is as much integrated into a student’s weekly education schedule as their Science or Math classes.
For many of our students, mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression can be overwhelming, but at Eastside Academy, we believe that hope and healing are within reach. Our licensed mental health professionals are here to support our students through the tough times, providing a safe and caring environment where they can work through their difficulties and find hope for a brighter future. With the help of our counseling services, our students are able to overcome their struggles, develop healthy coping skills, and build resilience for the future.
Eastside Academy alumni Connie had a pretty normal childhood until her grandfather, who was living with her family, developed serious health problems. He began to show signs of dementia and continued to get worse and became a very angry person. Connie started to get bullied at her school because her home situation wasn't healthy. After a while, her grandfather became abusive to her. Connie and her family had to leave the place she called home and without a stable living situation, she became homeless for almost five years. It was a very stressful time for Connie and her family.
Counseling and Recovery have helped me a lot. I had never had counseling before I came to EA. I didn't realize certain things in my life were broken and needed to be fixed. Now, I am getting clarity and relief from my past. - Connie
Our Counseling services are also available to all alumni. During COVID, many alumni came back to campus regularly for counseling and/or addiction recovery help. In a normal school year, a student can have up to 70 counseling sessions.
